2 Year Old

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, the director and the actor in his own play.” ~ Magda Gerber

Our Approach

Our program for two-year-olds is designed to build on the skills your child is already developing while gently introducing new concepts in fun, meaningful ways. Each month features an engaging theme that guides our lessons, hands-on projects, enrichment activities, and opportunities for family involvement. We focus on supporting the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and academically—through play-based learning.

Language

Around age two, children are excited to use words to share their thoughts, feelings, and needs. Our teachers warmly encourage and model positive language throughout the day, including introducing simple sign language to support communication. Through favorite books, songs, and imaginative dramatic play, your child enjoys lots of repetition and playful language practice. During snack and mealtimes, teachers sit with children and engage in friendly conversations, helping build confidence and strong early communication skills.

Learning by Doing

Two-year-olds learn best when they can touch, move, and create. Our curriculum is built around continuous engagement and sensory-rich experiences.

child learning to be creative

Creativity & Fine Motor Skills

We focus on strengthening those small hand muscles and sparking imagination through:

  • Daily Art Exploration: Almost every day, children are encouraged to explore various art materials—from paints to textures—focusing on the process of creating.

  • Cooking Experiences: We share age-appropriate cooking activities with the children, introducing them to early math (measuring), science (mixing), and new tastes.

  • Manipulative Play: A variety of puzzles, blocks, and age-appropriate toys are always available to help refine hand-eye coordination.

Gross Motor & Active Play

To support their growing bodies and boundless energy, we prioritize movement and outdoor exploration:

  • Group Games: Building social bonds while practicing listening and physical coordination.

  • Outdoor Play: Daily time on the playground to run, jump, and climb in a safe environment.

  • Neighborhood Walks: Guided walks through our local community to observe nature and build gross motor endurance.

  • The staff and instructors at Child’s Play have exceeded our expectations. Our daughter enjoys the variety of activities that are planned and looks forward to each day. The large outdoor areas give her room to run and the experienced instructors support her mental and emotional growth. Child’s Play really does feel like an extension of our family.
